You need The Ultimate Cutting Board in your life. The ‘Swiss Army Knife of Cutting Boards’, this thing has it all – right down to a juicer and a cheese grate. It might just be one of the best crowdfunding innovations we’ve seen this year, and nearly 400 Kickstarter backers are happy to agree with us.
The brainchild of Canadian MasterChef favorite Michael Motamedi and the Baffi team, The Ultimate Cutting Board is packed full of innovative features you’ll wonder how you ever managed without. From drawers to collect off-cuts to a design that splits in half for cleaning and serving, Michael has thought of everything.
“I’ve been cooking at home for quite a long time now and realized recently that the one thing that is central to all my cooking, no matter what the dish is, is the cutting board,” Michael explained when we caught up with him. “I always use one, and I always find myself running around the kitchen looking for utensils or wasting time going back and forth. Turning my chopping board into a central cooking station has saved me so much time. I don’t have to try and track down that juicer I haven’t seen in days, or find the measuring cups I always misplace; I have everything I need right there in front of me.”
Kickstarter seems to agree. Michael’s campaign is now nearly $20,000 over its original target, and there’s still a little under three weeks left on the campaign clock. So, if you’ve got a similarly fantastic crowdfunding project waiting to see the light of day, how do you emulate their success?
“I think one of the biggest factors to our success was having a strategy in place before we started the campaign.” Michael is happy to share his thoughts on the topic, “Getting the initial positive response from friends, family, and acquaintances validated the campaign and gave it the momentum it needed in those first few crucial days.”
Like many of our campaigners, Michael had a limited budget to get their campaign off the ground. “We made the most of our budget by focusing on digital advertising through Facebook, Instagram, and Google. We are still making a big media push, and we’re hoping to get picked up by some bigger publications,” Michael explains.
Of course, these guys are no strangers to thinking outside of the box, so we’d expect them to have thought of something more innovative than a standard social media campaign. “We have recently launched a referral program, too.” Michael doesn’t fail to disappoint. “Our backers and anyone else can earn cash for referring their networks through social media, email, etc.”
It’s a nice addition, and something we’d certainly recommend to all you would-be crowdfunders out there. So, have this enterprising pair got any other tips and tricks to help you launch the best crowdfunding campaign?
“I definitely recommend having a solid plan and strategy from the outset. Get a list of all your friends and family and don’t be scared to ask them for their support. You also want to scale your marketing budget relative to the funds you need to raise. Although it is very hard to determine that exact number, it’s best to have an idea and reverse engineer it so that it makes sense financially. You cannot rely on friends and family to get you there, no matter how big your network is. Line up the media put together a plan, and start executing it well before your campaign starts. The benefits and rewards you get will be well worth it. There’s nothing out there quite like the Kickstarter community.”
It’s a community Michael and the Baffi team are determined to look out for. “Social media isn’t just important for marketing the campaign,” Michael tells us. “Our success after the campaign will depend on it too. We’re going to need it to broadcast updates and keep our community engaged. We want to continue to give our backers great value, they’re on this journey with us and we want to make sure they feel included 100% of the time.”
See, didn’t we tell you this is one of the best crowdfunding campaigns we’ve come across recently? If you want to get your hands on The Ultimate Chopping Board (we certainly do!) and support this lovely pair, then hop on over to Kickstarter. You’ll have to be quick though, they’re flying off the shelves.
